筛查用灯光或漱口液查看是否有值得进一步检查的可疑部位，不会切除任何组织。刷取样本是从表面刮取细胞；组织活检则先打麻药，取下一小块组织，有时需要缝一两针。样本会送到病理实验室，实验室会单独计费。大多数保险计划把这归为基础类。实际能报销多少因计划而异。
