D5851. A temporary soft liner under a lower denture.

Gums change shape over time and a denture loosens. A reline adds new material to the inside of the denture so it fits again; a rebase replaces the whole pink base. Codes differ by full or partial denture and by whether it is done in the office or sent to a lab.

New material is added to the fitting surface so the denture meets the changed shape of the gums again. A soft reline can be done in the chair in one visit; a lab reline or a rebase means leaving the denture for a day or so. A rebase replaces the whole pink base and keeps the teeth. Most plans file this as Basic. What they actually pay varies by plan.
