A partial denture replaces some teeth and clips onto the remaining ones. Codes differ by the base material (plastic, cast metal frame, or flexible plastic), by upper or lower jaw, by whether it is placed the same day teeth are removed, and by whether it replaces teeth on one side only.

A partial fills the gaps and clips onto the teeth that are left, so those teeth carry it. Codes divide by what the base is made of, whether it is upper or lower, whether it goes in the same day teeth are removed, and whether it replaces teeth on one side only. It comes out for cleaning and overnight. Most plans file this as Major. What they actually pay varies by plan.
