endodontist. Usually referred to an endodontist or pediatric dentist.
One question worth asking
How many visits does this take, and how far apart are they?
Root-end closure treatment, medicine change
D3352. A middle visit where the medicine is replaced.
A young adult tooth whose root has not finished growing cannot get a normal root canal. These multi-visit treatments place medicine inside the root to help it close or keep growing, then finish the root canal later.
In a young adult tooth the tip of the root is still open, so there is nothing for a normal filling to seal against. Medicine is sealed inside the tooth for weeks or months to encourage the root to close or keep growing, with visits in between to change it, and the root canal is finished once there is a wall to seal to. Most plans file this as Major. What they actually pay varies by plan.
